LAPTAP
Using LAPTAP(1) to install a loader.do(2) to a Tandy(3) Model 100 from a DOS pc.
LAPTAP may not work on i386 or faster machines.
1) Connect the Tandy to a COM port on the PC via a null modem cable(4).
2) Start the program LAPTAP.EXE by typing LAPTAP at the dos prompt.
- By default LAPTAP uses COM1
- If you need to use COM2 instead, start LAPTAP by typing
LAPTAP 2 - LAPTAP will give you a screen with 3 options:
<R>ECIEVE data from the Tandy <S>END data to the Tandy <Q>UIT
- Choose <S>, the SEND option in LAPTAP.
- Then, in response to the "file to send" prompt that appears, enter the filename of a BASIC program saved in ascii format.
- Example:
DOS100.DOorTS-DOS.100 - LAPTAP will then instruct you to prepare the Tandy to receive the data.
- Do not "press any key" yet.
3) Go into BASIC on the Tandy (or any model other than NEC) and type:
RUN "COM:88N1ENN"- If the protable is NEC, type this instead:
RUN "COM:8N81XN"
4) On the PC, press any key to start the actual transfer.

(2) A "loader.do" is a BASIC program that creates a machine language program. It is a way to bootstrap install machine language programs onto TRS-80 Model 100 and other KC-85 clones that have no binary-safe serial transfer software installed yet. It must be saved in ASCII format, and that is why the filename should have a ".DO" extension.
(3) LAPTAP is useful with all of the Kyotronic KC-85 clones, not just the Tandy models. LAPTAP has some hard coded prompts that say "the Tandy" to refer to the portable, so this document does too. But wherever you see "the Tandy", it may actually be a Tandy 100, 102, or 200, NEC PC-8201(a) or PC-8300, Olivetti M10, or Kyotronic KC-85.
